Active language use that ensures and supports comprehension are a key success factor for cooperation between the counsellor and the person seeking advice. Using a part of a corpus containing initial counselling sessions, the functionality of linguistic actions that ensure and support understanding for successful cooperation in language learning counselling sessions is identified by using conversation analysis.
