Sumario:This paper is the text of a lecture delivered at Marburg University, with which Tenri University has a sister relationship. After the COVID-19 pandemic caused my proposed lecture to be postponed for three years, I am all the more delighted to be here in Marburg once again, on my eighth visit. It is an honour to be invited to deliver this lecture on the contemporary study of religions, focusing on Rudolf Otto’s religious theory, here at Marburg University.
